FFHS sophomore Hailey Stamm participated in the "Can You Take The Heat" program this summer. The CYTH program took place in late August at the Scarlet Oaks Career Campus and was specifically geared towards girls who are interested in becoming firefighters. Haley currently serves as a Cadet with the Franklin Township Fire Department, so this opportunity was right up her alley.
The day was all hands-on training where students learned about the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges firefighters face. Participants also got to work with hoses, perform mock search and rescue operations, proper ladder skills, and compete in two-minute gear dress drills. The learning event culminated in students learning how to suppress a field fire and extinguishing a fully-engulfed car fire! The event was instructed by a group of mostly female instructors and attended by about 20 Tri-State young ladies.
Hailey had a lot of fun and learned a lot at the same time.
If you or your daughter are interested in a career in firefighting or EMS, talk to your school counselor, we can help connect you to these types of opportunities.
It's a great day to be a Cardinal!
